Date: May 14, 2010

Purpose: To establish guidelines regarding the use of the Safe Ride Fund made available to the Internal Medicine House Staff.
Policy: Each year the Internal Medicine Residency program is allotted funds to provide transportation for the Internal Medicine House Staff during their days post call.
Guidelines:
  • Reimbursement payments may be given to house officers for transportation home upon leaving The University of Chicago Hospitals.  Transportation is to be used when a house officer is too tired to drive home safely.  Reimbursement will be made for transportation from the hospitals to home and to return the work the following day.
  • Reimbursement will be provided to those people currently completing an Internal Medicine rotation at the University of Chicago Hospitals (including, but not limited to: 4th Year Medical Students/Sub I’s, Anesthesia residents, Emergency Medicine Residents, etc.)
  • A cab can be obtained by going to the cabstand just north of Mitchell on 58th street, or by dialing 312-829-4222.   A receipt is needed in order to receive reimbursement, and should be submitted to Kenneth Ester Jr. – Manager, Internal Medicine Residency Program, in A-700. Receipts MUST BE SUBMITTED AT THE END OF EACH MONTH. If they are not submitted by the end of the month they are obtained for safe ride, they cannot be reimbursed
