Shoutout to the amazing PGY3s (Caitlin, Michelle D, Fiona, and Lendy from Christian) who have been saving me on cards nights and always being willing to talk through patients and plans with me!! They have truly been such a lifesaver (for both me and patients lol) and I canβt imagine going through my first senioring block without them
Zoie (Dr. Sheets) was called in to cover in the CCU this weekend after not having been on CCU in a while. She did an excellent job, showing efficient and high-quality care to all of her patients and great leadership to her new intern. One patient interaction really stood out to me. We had a very ill patient with respiratory failure, neutropenic fever from pneumonia, a large pericardial effusion, and many other concerns. Zoie navigated his complex case with ease, reaching out to ID promptly to verify neutropenic fever antifungals, talking with pharmacy and nursing to make sure antibiotics were given ASAP, talking with pulmonology to address one of the scariest chest X-rays I’ve seen in a while, and clearly communing with me and our attending throughout this time, all the while talking with the patient’s wife and keeping the patient’s overall wishes in mind. She stabilized the patient and provided his family the chance to fly in and hopefully be with him soon. She even gave me a call to share the good news of his stabilization, as we were all very concerned that he would pass away within a few hours. She made my job as a fellow very easy and really provided the patient and his family with the support they needed during that tenuous time.
